Occupational hygiene

I joined Envirocare as a Trainee Occupational Hygienist in January 2020.  Before this, I spent 10 years working in high-risk environments, including, the Army Air Corps, oil rigs, and as an abseiler for a construction company in Australia. Over this time my passion for Health & Safety ignited and I undertook NEBOSH and IOSH auditing qualifications, leading to my employment journey with Envirocare.

Company-Funded Occupational Hygiene Training

As soon as I joined Envirocare I launched straight into my company funded training programme, devised by my OH Operations Manager, Elliot Baker. As well as hands-on, on-site training, with my qualified peers, I immediately started studying for my formal Occupational Hygiene qualifications.  I successfully passed my Measurement of Hazardous Substances W501 with the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS), BOHS P601 Local Exhaust Ventilation Training, Institute of Acoustics Certificate of Competence in Workplace Noise Risk Assessment, BOHS Ergonomics Essentials, and my BOHS Control of Hazardous Substances W505.  I am now working towards becoming fully certified by the BOHS – a Licentiate grade member of the Faculty of Occupational Hygiene (LFOH).

Team-Oriented Culture at Envirocare

I was impressed by the amount of support and time the Envirocare Team gave me, to guide me through what I needed to study.  In April 2023, my passion and dedication was recognised and I was promoted to Envirocare Occupational Hygiene Training and Safety Lead. An exciting new role to champion safety, quality and training and devise strategies to make improvements to ensure Envirocare are the best in industry.

Exciting Opportunities

I am really pleased with the opportunities that joining Envirocare has opened up for me. The Occupational Hygiene team is growing from strength to strength and Susan Lett, the OH Director is making positive changes as we grow, meaning the services we can offer clients are expanding and our expertise is widely recognised in the profession.  We now have a bespoke digital project management tool, the iSmith, which makes our working practices more efficient and carbon-friendly, and we have really stepped up a level with new technology, working tools, processes and practices that help us to thrive as an integrated team.

My career with Envirocare has also given me a good work-life balance, with flexible working, which enables me to spend more time with my family, and feel appreciated in my workplace.
