Scott Barbour Stack Technician

We’d like to congratulate Scott Barbour for being the first person to start at Envirocare as a trainee and work his way to becoming a fully qualified Stack Technician, in record time!

Scott graduated from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh with a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering.  After working in New Zealand for two years, he joined us in February 2021 as a trainee.  He rapidly worked his way through his MCERTS qualifications (the Environment Agency’s Monitoring Certification Scheme for environmental permit holders). He graduated as a fully qualified MCERTS Level 2 Team leader with Technical Endorsements 1, 2, 3 & 4 in April 2022; it took him less than 15 months.

Scott relished the challenge this ‘on the job’ training provided:

‘Envirocare encouraged me to take advantage of this training opportunity and make progress in the stack emissions sector. They offered me support and flexibility, and I was very lucky to be able to draw on the knowledge and experience of my peers, have access to training materials, and a training manager to help me with preparation.  The best parts of my job are the great team I get to work with, the variety of projects I get to experience, and the various parts of the country I get to travel to.’

John Healey, Managing Director of Envirocare comments:

‘This is an excellent achievement from Scott, and this kind of progression enables us to support our rapid growth and expansion to three teams operating from our Scottish Office. We would encourage anyone interested in an opportunity at Envirocare and to follow in Scott’s footsteps to get in touch.’
