Envirocare’s Occupational Hygienist, Chris Creasey has been awarded his professional qualification by the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS). His Certificate of Operational Competence in Occupational Hygiene is a prestigious qualification in the sector, and a further guarantee to Envirocare’s clients of our staff’s continued experience, expertise, and upskilling.

Chris’s academic background is in forensic science, which he studied at Staffordshire University. He moved into occupational hygiene after noticing both disciplines intersected and involved transferable skills.  Chris was keen not to spend all of his time in a lab, and occupational hygiene allowed him to work in various settings and workplaces

Chris joined Envirocare in September 2022, having worked previously at Bureau Veritas, Riverside Environmental, and Element Materials Technology.  He has been working towards his professional qualification while working full-time.

What is the BOHS Certificate of Operational Competence in Occupational Hygiene?

The Certificate of Operational Competence in Occupational Hygiene is made up of six written exams, a portfolio of coursework, and an oral exam assessed by senior hygienists.  It is a demanding and rigorous assessment of a professional practitioner’s skills, and a resounding endorsement by the sector’s professional institution, the British Occupational Hygiene Society.

Chris is now a Senior Hygienist, which means Envirocare’s clients can rest assured about our staff’s experience and expertise in Occupational Hygiene. Chris can also sign off the work of others, meaning the team has more support and resources.  Some companies also require this qualification for larger pieces of work, so Chris can now offer this extra layer of accreditation.

New Challenges and Closely-Knit Teams

Chris enjoys the variety that is a natural part of his job – he enjoys visiting different clients at various sites, and the range of settings and challenges he gets to tackle every day.  He comments, “I’m delighted to have achieved this professional qualification with the support of Envirocare and the wider team.  Working as a Senior Hygienist means that the experience and expertise I can offer our clients are of the highest quality, backed by the latest techniques and the sector’s professional institution’s standards. Since joining Envirocare I’ve enjoyed a quick, easy and pleasant integration with the rest of the company.  The team has been really accommodating and has gelled really quickly. I’m looking forward to working closely with our clients and ensuring that they’re implementing the best practice to ensure their staff are working safely and are protected in the workplace.”
